Coaching Requirements

There are 5 requirements for someone to become a rostered coach. The first four requirements must be completed prior to being added to the team roster. The last requirement must be completed prior to December 31st.

  • USAH Number
  • Background Check
  • SafeSport
  • Age Specific Module
  • CEP Training

USAH NUMBER

Register for a USAH coaching number. This number will have an associated cost and the last 5 digits of the USAH number will be the first 5 letters of your last name. Email your number to Erica Siegel (RiverHawksRegistrar@gmail.com)

USA Hockey Member Registration

BACKGROUND CHECK

Background checks are required to be completed every other year. If you are not sure of your status, please reach out to Erica Siegel (RiverHawksRegistrar@gmail.com). The organization's code is 35615801 if it does not automatically populate.

SAFESPORT TRAINING

This is an annual requirement. Every other year you are able to take an abridged version of the course. The full course is 90 minutes and the abridged version is about 30 minutes. This training must be taken every 365 days. USA hockey will begin sending reminders 30 days before your safe sport certification expires.

AGE SPECIFIC MODULES

Each coach is required to take a general introduction and complete age specific modules for each division you plan on coaching. This is a one time requirement unless you change age division.

COACHING CLINICS

All coaches are required to take a live virtual coaching session prior to December 31st to remain on the active roster. The courses begin in late August and run through the end of December. New courses are released on a regular basis. Once a coach becomes a level 4 coach, continuing education courses are required.
