RiverHawks Travel Hockey
In general, CT RiverHawks participants should have previous travel experience or at least one year of Intro to Hockey or D-League experience. Players should be able to skate backwards, do forward crossovers and be able to do a hockey stop. Typically, the team practices two to four nights a week and has one home and one away game each weekend. Travel hockey is competitive hockey and is a commitment by both the child and his/her parents or guardian. Travel is open to all boys and girls.

Ages (2024 - 2025 SEASON)
USA Hockey has youth ice hockey age classifications aligned with the calendar year for registration purposes. The age divisions are as follows:
Mite (birth year): 2016 - 2018
Squirt (birth year): 2014 - 2015
PeeWee (birth year): 2012 - 2013
Bantam (birth year): 2010 - 2011
Midget (birth year): 2006 - 2009
When
The travel hockey season will run from late August or early September through late February or March depending on the age division.
Tryouts for the 2024-2025 season will be held in the spring of 2024.
Where
Practices and home games will be held at the Rinks at the Sport Center in Shelton, CT.
Practices
Teams will have 2 - 3 practice sessions per week. Practices will be a combination of team practices, USA Hockey ADM station-based skills sessions and Power skating sessions.
Games
Teams will typically play 20-30 games per season depending on age divisions. Games are usually held on Saturdays and Sundays, with teams often playing 2 games per weekend.
Jerseys
Families will also be responsible for purchasing their player’s jersey and warm-up suit from Blue Line sports. Once teams have been determined, a fitting day will be held at the rink to ensure proper sizing for our players. In addition to the required apparel, additional items are also available for purchase.
Extra Costs
Tournament fees and travel expenses are in addition to the standard tuition. The number and location of tournaments is determined by each individual team.

Prices: Tryout Prices vary from $50 - $125 depending on division. There will be a $50 late fee for registration the first day of tryouts for each age division.
Tryout Dates: Mites, Squirt & Bantam Tryouts will be held in March. Bantam and Midget Tryouts will be held in April.
